As an EmpowerU volunteer for several years, I am always in awe of what can happen because of our classes and the interesting participants. The March 17 class on human trafficking, presented by Melinda Hagarty of Attorney General’s Office, was extremely informative.
Two ladies in the audience presented some opportunities for action and awareness: Lauren Delk, Miami University student, who is the founder of supported girls.com and Jan McCarter with Truckers against Trafficking.
A friend of mine suggested I speak with her daughter who was planning an event on the subject of human trafficking. I was totally blown away by what I heard and I hope many of you can support the planned event.
A 17 yr. old Walnut Hills senior Taylor Edwards and several friends have organized an event featuring a speaker who is a survivor of human trafficking. Because they were so touched by a video about this 21st century slavery, they are committed to raise awareness on the topic which presents serious problems in Ohio.
The event will be held on April 19th, 1 to 5 p.m. at the 86 Club, 2820 Vine Street, Cincinnati, Ohio – 45219. Free will donations will be accepted. There will be music, information booths, and a fair trade market. Download the poster for F.A.I.R. at http://www.empoweruohio.org/fairposterfinalb.jpg
As someone who supports the effort and commitment of young people, I am reaching out to everyone who can make this event a success.
Thank you so much for any help you can give Taylor and her friends.
